Singapore Changi Airport Opens Terminal 5: World's Largest

Singapore Changi Airport has inaugurated Terminal 5, cementing its position as the world’s largest aviation hub with a combined annual capacity of 140 million passengers. The $11 billion terminal, which took 12 years to plan and build, features 110 aerobridges, 1,400 check-in kiosks, and the world’s most advanced biometric processing system capable of handling 50 million passengers annually.

Terminal 5 incorporates a 30-meter-high indoor rainforest garden โ€” continuing Changi’s tradition of nature-filled terminals โ€” along with 200 retail outlets, 80 restaurants, and a connected hotel. The building’s design prioritizes sustainability, with solar panels generating 20% of the terminal’s electricity and rainwater harvesting covering 40% of non-potable water needs.

The terminal is directly connected to the existing Changi Airport MRT station and the new Cross Island Line interchange, providing seamless public transport access. A second automated people mover connects all five terminals landside.
