United Airlines Expands 787-9 Dreamliner on Key Long-Haul Routes

United Airlines is set to significantly enhance its long-haul passenger experience by expanding the deployment of its upgraded 222-seat Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner across key international routes during the second half of the Northern Summer 2026 season. The rollout will see all three daily flights between San Francisco International Airport and Heathrow Airport operated by the new configuration by September 2026, with a phased introduction beginning in late April. From 1 August 2026, the airline will also upgrade its ultra long-haul service between San Francisco and Singapore, with both daily flights transitioning to the updated Dreamliner. Additionally, services between San Francisco and Zurich will adopt the aircraft from 1 September 2026.The redesigned cabin features fewer seats compared to previous layouts, allowing for a stronger focus on premium cabins, enhanced comfort, and an improved onboard experienceโ€”particularly important for long-haul travellers. This strategic move reflects United Airlinesโ€™ continued investment in modernising its fleet and elevating passenger comfort on some of its most important global routes.
