Toyota’s New Hydrogen Car Achieves 1,200 km Range on Single Fill

🗓 👁 6 Views ⏱ 1 min read

Toyota has unveiled the third-generation Mirai hydrogen fuel cell sedan, featuring a dramatically improved range of 1,200 km on a single hydrogen fill — more than double that of most battery electric vehicles and roughly equivalent to a petrol car tank. The achievement was made possible by a new high-pressure hydrogen tank system and a 40% more efficient fuel cell stack.

The new Mirai refuels in just 5 minutes, addressing one of the key practical advantages of hydrogen over battery-electric vehicles. Toyota plans to offer the car at a price point competitive with premium battery EVs, targeting a launch price of €55,000 in Europe and $58,000 in the United States.

Toyota remains the industry’s most prominent hydrogen advocate, arguing that a one-size-fits-all EV strategy is insufficient and that hydrogen will be essential for long-range vehicles, heavy trucks, and sectors where charging is impractical.
