Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has opened the Dubai Metro Blue Line, the emirate’s third metro line and the world’s most automated mass transit system, operating with zero drivers, zero station staff, and fully AI-managed passenger flow control. The 30-km line connects Dubai Silicon Oasis to Dubai Creek Harbour via 14 stations, all managed remotely from a single control centre.
The line uses next-generation Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) technology with train headways of just 90 seconds during peak hours, equating to a frequency of 40 trains per hour in each direction. Platform doors synchronize precisely with train doors, and AI cameras monitor the entire network for unusual activity in real time.
Dubai is simultaneously developing a hyperloop connection between the Blue Line’s southern terminus and Abu Dhabi International Airport, a 140 km route that would be covered in under 15 minutes when completed in 2030.
