EU Launches €200 Billion Green Transport Fund Across 27 Nations

The European Commission has unveiled its landmark Green Transport Fund — a €200 billion investment programme spanning all 27 EU member states, aimed at eliminating carbon emissions from European transport by 2050. The fund, financed through the EU’s multiannual financial framework and green bonds, will support rail electrification, port decarbonization, urban mobility transformation, and the deployment of hydrogen refueling infrastructure.

The fund will prioritize connectivity to Eastern and Southern European nations that currently lag in transport quality, ensuring that Bulgaria, Romania, Serbia, and North Macedonia gain high-speed rail connections to the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) core network by 2035.

A dedicated innovation strand will fund 50 demonstrator projects for emerging technologies including electric aviation, hyperloop, autonomous freight, and urban air mobility across European cities.
