Volvo Trucks has officially launched its largest-ever deployment of fully electric semi-trucks across 12 European countries, marking a historic moment in the decarbonization of freight transport. The 2,000-truck fleet will serve major retail and logistics clients including DHL, IKEA, and Carrefour.

The FH Electric trucks offer a payload capacity of 44 tonnes and a range of up to 300 km on a single charge โ€” sufficient for the majority of regional distribution routes. Volvo has partnered with major energy companies to establish charging corridors along key European freight highways.

“This fleet deployment proves that electric trucking is ready for commercial scale,” said Roger Alm, President of Volvo Trucks. “We are transforming road freight one mile at a time.”

The initiative is supported by the European Green Deal and EU funding, with the goal of making zero-emission heavy transport commercially viable by 2030. Fleet operators report fuel cost savings of up to 60% compared to diesel equivalents.
